The A.S. Degree in 环境科学

Start your environmental science career at BHCC! BHCC’s new associate degree program in environmental science is a cutting-edge environmental program for the 21st century that will focuses on the critical issues affecting our planet. The program prepares students to succeed in a variety of different workforce pathways in the geosciences, including transfer to four-year environmental programs.

In this program, you’ll take core courses in 环境科学, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Resource Conservation, Chemistry, Geographical Information Systems, Biology or Physics, with optional courses in Population Ecology, 环境微生物学, Earth Science, and Oceanography.

The program also includes an internship program in the clean energy, sustainability and environmental sectors in Boston.

Knowledge and Skills of Environmental Scientists

环境科学 is a field of study based on the interactions of living and non-living components of nature, with a focus on the impact of humans on the environment.

Environmental scientists study physical and life sciences to understand interactions within environmental systems and to determine the nature and extent of environmental problems. Environmental scientists are also trained to understand where these ecological considerations fit in with the complex economic, sociological and political systems within their communities.

The research and work of environmental scientists may include activities related to climate change, 野生动物保护, waste management, energy use, clean technology, 可持续农业, ecology, 自然资源管理, fate transport and pollution mitigation, toxicology, environmental advocacy and environmental policy.

Environmental scientists may work with engineers and technologists to develop solutions for environmental problems or work with policy makers and managers to spur the development of sustainable practices and policies.
